Mrs. jen bernal
I am proud to serve as the principal of Nicholson Elementary School! I believe in the importance of working collaboratively with staff, families, and the community to create a culture of high expectations for all. Students need to be challenged, inspired, encouraged, learn from opportunities, and be a part of a community that fosters a life-long love for learning.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and a Master of Arts in elementary leadership, both from Aurora University. My educational career began in the West Aurora School District in 1997, and over the years I have worked as a special education paraprofessional, a first, third, and fifth grade teacher, and a student services specialist. In addition to working at Nicholson Elementary School, I have also worked at Goodwin, McCleery, Fearn, and Smith elementary schools.
In my spare time, I enjoy running, reading, and being outdoors. I also enjoy spending time with my two children, Dylan and Grace, who have both attended the West Aurora Schools.
It is my pleasure to serve the Nicholson community, and I look forward to meeting you!
Ms. Jill Roderick
I am honored to serve as the assistant principal of Nicholson Elementary School, home of the Eagles. I have a deep commitment to fostering a collaborative and inspiring educational environment where students are challenged and encouraged to develop a lifelong love for learning.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Illinois State University, a Master of Arts in reading instruction from Aurora University, and a Master of Arts in educational leadership from Concordia University. My educational career spans over two decades, beginning with 14 years in Kaneland Community Unit School District 302, where I taught kindergarten through second grade and served as an instructional coach. Since 2018, I have been the third grade curriculum coordinator for West Aurora School District 129, focusing on instructional coaching and curriculum development.
I could not be prouder or more energized to work with West Aurora's students and staff at Nicholson Elementary School. I am eager to continue to grow alongside the Nicholson community.
